GJFD Responds to Fire in Vacant Building

GJFD fighting a fire at a commercial building

At 2:44 AM this morning Grand Junction Fire Department responded to reports of a commercial building fire on the 600 block of South 9th Street. The 9-1-1 caller spotted the fire from a nearby building and indicated they could see flames and hear small explosions. When Truck 1 arrived on scene they confirmed smoke and flames inside the building and attacked the fire from outside using available open windows and doors to put water on the fire. After crews determined that the building was safe to enter, they moved inside to extinguish remaining hotspots. There are no known injuries. The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation.

GJFD responded with Truck 1, Engine 3, Engine 5, Truck 6, Ambulance 1, and a Battalion Chief. The Grand Junction Police Department also responded to assist with scene safety.
