Officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to a report of felony menacing at the Columbine Motel, located at 2824 North Avenue, on August 31, 2025, at approximately 1:25 p.m.
A man, identified as 43-year-old Melvin Johnson, was threatening his roommate with a knife. The victim was able to leave the room and get to safety. Johnson refused to cooperate with law enforcement and barricaded himself inside. After a period of communication with officers, Johnson was safely taken into custody without further incident.
No injuries were reported.
Johnson was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility and booked on the following charges:
- Felony Menacing
- Obstruction
- Resisting Arrest
This was an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the community. This case remains under investigation, and no additional information is available at this time.
