- Deputy Chief Gary Marak
Deputy Chief Gary Marak has been in law enforcement since 1988, spending several years serving in Arizona prior to joining the Grand Junction Police Department in 1993. Commander Marak has experience working in and supervising many of the units in the department, including patrol, narcotics, and Investigations. Deputy Chief Marak has also served as a Defensive Tactics Instructor, a SWAT Team Leader, and a Field Training Officer.
Deputy Chief Marak has completed over 3,000 hours of continued education and advanced training during his tenure with our agency. His professional affiliations include the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association.
Since being promoted to the rank of Commander in 2013, Deputy Chief Marak most recently served as a Patrol Commander, overseeing our Community Resource Unit, our Special Investigations Unit, and our Bomb Squad. As Deputy Chief of Operations, he will oversee the patrol division, including the Community Resource Units, the Colorado Mesa University substation, our School Resource Officers, and the Special Investigations Unit.
