Dumpster Pad & Enclosure Standards

Access

Access to the enclosure shall remain unobstructed with a clear approach. There should be no ground or overhead obstruction restricting direct access to the dumpster enclosure with collection equipment.

Pad Surface

A reinforced or fiber mix concrete pad of not less than 4-inch thickness is recommended. The pad shall be level with the ground surface.

All Enclosures

All enclosures and gates (if required) shall not be less than the dimensions of the pad (excluding service area). Gates shall be designed to open not less than 100 degrees - the goal is to achieve maximum clearance between the gates at any given point when fully open to allow access for the collection truck. The gate opening shall be no less than the width of the enclosure.

Enclosure Dimensions for Front Loading Dumpsters

Two and three cubic yard dumpster minimum inside dimensions are 10-foot wide by 7-foot deep enclosure area. Four, six and eight cubic yard dumpster minimum inside dimensions are 12-foot wide by 10-foot deep enclosure area.

For enclosures where two dumpsters are needed, expand 1.5 times the depth or double the width. Where other material may be stored inside the enclosure such as recycling containers etc, the enclosure shall be expanded beyond the above measurements to accommodate those materials.

Front Loading Service Area

It is recommended to install an additional 6-foot service pad of 8-inch reinforced concrete adjacent to the front of the enclosure to prevent damage to the asphalt surface from front-loading equipment.

A solid sub-base compacted to 95% maximum density of AASHTO T-99 standards is recommended (collection equipment can weigh in excess of 54,000 pounds).

Enclosure Dimensions for Rear Loading Dumpsters

  • Two and three cubic yard dumpster minimum inside dimensions: 10-foot wide by 7-foot deep enclosure area.
  • Four cubic yard dumpster minimum inside dimensions: 10-foot wide by 10-foot deep enclosure area.
  • For enclosures where two dumpsters are needed: expand the width to 16-foot or double the depth.
  • 2-yard Construction Dumpsters available to rent: $3.00 per day rental and $86.00 service fee. (Prohibited items: hazardous material & concrete) Do not fill the dumpster with heavy material such as shingles, dirt, etc.  Please email or call for more information and for additional prohibited items.
