Collection System Maintenance

The 201 Collection System boundary defines the area that generates wastewater needing to be transported to the Persigo Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). This totals over 550 miles of sanitary sewer lines and the miles grow each year with continued growth in the Grand Junction area.

Types of Maintenance

Persigo WWTP collection crews are responsible for cleaning, inspecting, and maintaining these sewer lines in the 201 Collection System. Two high-pressure jetting trucks and one combination jetter/vactor truck clean the City's entire sanitary sewer system. This does not include additional cleaning of storm or irrigation pipelines.

You might see the City's sewer-jetting trucks hook up to fill stations to replenish their water storage tanks. This water is used to high-pressure spray (jet) the inside of the sewer lines to clean and break-up any debris. This is perfectly normal and safe. Only potable water is stored in the tanks and all the trucks have a back-flow prevention device. This will stop any water in the tanks from being pulled back into the water system.

On-Call Collection Crew

Collection crews are on-call 24-hours a day, 365 days a year, to respond to any emergency that should arise within the 201 Collection System boundary. If you would like more information, please email Bill Etcheverry, Collection Systems Supervisor, or call 970-256-4167.
