Vacation Check Request

Did you know that you can give yourself additional peace of mind while on vacation by requesting that your home be checked on periodically when you're away?

Our robust level of volunteer services includes home watch while you're on vacation!  If you are going to be away and would like our volunteers to conduct drive by checks at your address (within the City Limits of Grand Junction), simply visit our online reporting portal and select the "vacation watch" report category.  If you prefer, you may also fill out the form manually and drop it off at the police department, or email it to us.  You can provide details such as whether or not you have an alarm system, what vehicles should be outside, and if you have pets at home.

*Please note that this service is limited to the view from the street, and does not provide a perimeter check.  Vacation watch is not available for homes that are for sale, abandoned, or in foreclosure.

Other safety tips to consider while you're away:

• Set your interior lights to turn on and off with a timer and use motion sensing exterior lights.
• Get a trusted neighbor to collect your mail and place a hold on newspaper delivery. 
• Don't share your travel plans on social media; it's best not to broadcast that your home will be unoccupied!
• Check and double check that doors and windows are secured before you leave.
• NEVER keep your extra key outside where a thief could locate it!
